Good news and a tiny confession

As of today I have four more work days at the Children’s Hospital and I am done. I love the work I do there, and feel that it is important BUT I need to get paid. I can’t just keep working for free.

Also, as of today I only have 5 more class periods to sit through, one more exam to take before I can start apply to grad schools and take a year off. And as of right now, I’m so schooled out that I don’t even know if I’ll go back in the next year or so. I think it’s the Misters turn to go back to school, since he’s had a nice long break!

And for the BIG news… I have an interview on Monday!!!!! I am not going to say where just so I don’t jinx it, but I will tell you that it is in a field that I am very interested in and would love to stay in. So wish me luck and keep your fingers crossed that I get it. It would be ideal!!!! Once I know one way or the other I will tell you the story!

Now for the confession.

When the Mister and I got engaged he had bought me a ring which was beautiful but not really my style. So we went and exchanged it for what I have now. Much more me. It’s simple, beautiful and blah blah blah. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my ring, and what is signifies. I will always wear it and keep it around because it’s a representation of who we were and where we were when we got married. All that being said… I confess that I’ve had my eye on another ring that at the time we couldn’t afford.

This is my current ring

Well… the Mister caught me staring at it last night, and said that when I get a job, and we have the extra cash I can get the ring, with the condition that I wear my now wedding ring on my right hand… and we have to have all of our credit card debt paid off (that was my condition).

Here is the ring that will be mine hopefully around our anniversary.

What are your thoughts on getting a new wedding set? Upgrades? Would you keep your original diamond? Do you think I’m selfish?

  1. I have a tiny confession to make too. My wedding set does not include my original engagement ring. When we got engaged money didn't allow me to have a set with lots of diamonds etc. When we decided to get married, we had some diamonds passed down to us from the hubby's grandmother. We took my original diamond (from his mom's engagment ring, that she gave us) and reset it with the new diamonds. That's how I got my current ring, which I LOVE! I support getting something your love to wear, you have to wear it every day. And me and the mister both agree, in the future if our tastes change we can either one change our ring. We know people who don't love their ring so much after 5 years of marriage and won't change it. I thing the ring is a symbol. The symbol can change because the fact of the matter is, the love grows and changes too. Now, I am sentimental and couldn't entirely let go of my original ring. It had a BEAUTIFUL pattern engraved in the band, so our jeweler took the band, removed the prongs and completed the engraving around the band. I now use that band when I'm traveling and things like that. So, all of this is to say, GO FOR IT! Wear something you LOVE!!

  2. While I'm sure there are people who would see it as such, I don't think its selfish at all. My mister didn't believe in spending more than he could afford without using credit so he promised me that after we'd cleaned up some of our school debt and he'd gotten back from his second deployment, we could look into "upgrading." I've found my dream ring and now we're in the process of completing our goals before we head to the jeweler's. Its not selfish to want to enjoy the symbol of your marriage, even if it means wearing your original set on your right hand.

I hope that your job interview goes well and you are soon well on your way to your goals being met/owning your dream ring! As Betty said, wear something you love! :)

  3. Is that a Tiffany ring I see?!
My man last night mentioned a mountain being planted on my hand sometime soon, and how it wasn't cheap. Does that mean he bought it?! Kind of made me a tad giddy.

Good luck on your interview!! So happy for you lady!

  4. Good luck with the interview!

My husband gave me a big, gorgeous ring when we got engaged (we picked it out together) and I will never really need an upgrade. (Not bragging, it's just the truth - I adore my ring).

I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't know. I don't think it's selfish, but I don't know how I'd feel about getting a new one. I say as long as it's okay with you and your husband, get what you want :)

  5. I don't think you're selfish at all! My husband gave me a family heirloom which I think is really ugly. But I wasn't going to say no to having it, since his mother really wanted it to stay in the family, and he is an only child.

I've wanted to get a new ring since I got the other one, the one I want is too pricey, and I can't justify the extra money when there are so many other things that money could go to... but that's me, always the over-thinker.

  6. I totally don't think your selfish! I am exactly the same way as you. I'm not engaged yet, but when my boyfriend and I talk about it, I always tell him what I want my ring to look like and how big or what not, and if I don't like it when I get it, then we're exchanging it. haha.
I mean I understand the whole "the ring shouldn't matter, its your love that counts," but the woman should really appreciate and want to share what she has on her finger. She's not going to want to brag about something that she thinks is "ugly."
So with that said, I think you handled it very nicely and your husband is very understanding :) and I love both rings you picked out!

  7. This Ring Is Gorgeous and very chic!!!
    Very exciting!

  8. That ring is stunning! I hope you get it! :)

  9. The new ring you want is almost exactly what I want when (if) I ever get engaged! LOVE IT! I hope you can get it sooner rather than later!

Congrats on the interview - I will have my fingers crossed! BEST OF LUCK!!!!!!!

  10. Thank you for stopping by! I think the ring is pretty and you should upgrade. My mom upgrades 2x, she's now at a 3.5 carat centerstone so for it!

  11. I think there is nothing wrong with a little upgrade! I have always wanted one, from like day one, but we unfortunately have other important things going on. Whatever! :) Someday soon I hope!

  12. I've always thought about upgrading my engagement and wedding rings, we got engaged at 19 and married at 22 so my rings are very simple. There are also a tad small, though not uncomfortably so. There's just so much sentimental value to these rings, I just can't imagine wearing something else! There are rings I love and would like to have, but I'm just not sure right now.

Thanks so much for stopping by!!! Leave comments, questions or suggestions! They make me smile!
