A little glimpse into Asymmetrical Joy

Today, I have a special treat for you. A guest post by one of my very good friends, Kristin (with an i) from Asymmetrical Joy. Kristin and I have known each other since middle school, and went our separate ways after high school, we’ve reconnected through our love of photography, travel, and life. Check out her guest post below, leave her some love and hop over to check out her awesome corner of the World Wide Web.

Hello, friends! I’m so excited to be guest blogging here today; thank you Zara!

My name is Kristin, the one behind asymmetrical joy - blog and Etsy shop. My obsessions include lowercase letters, reading trashy novels, Chipotle, iced coffee, Pinterest and spending more money than I should!

I’ve been blogging and running my Etsy shop for a few months now, and loving every minute of it, even through the challenges.

Creativity is something that has never come easily to me. I have always had a love for art, but my organized and controlling ways always interfered with my creative process. Frustrated, I was searching through some websites for quotations about creativity to see if that would help me break through my wall, and I came across one that shifted my whole perspective. I began a painting centered around it and came up with this:

Every time I sit down to create something, I have to plan for a warm-up period. I’ve come to accept that the first thing I start will probably be scrapped, and if I can let go of the attachment, then the good stuff starts coming. There’s usually this moment when a painting is almost to where I want it to be, and I could seriously ruin it if the next step doesn’t go well. When I reach that point my stomach gets nervous, and I look at this quote and push forward. Being wrong is okay.

I created asymmetrical joy as a way for me to keep pushing myself out of that safe zone that I create for myself. I have a slight obsession with symmetry and order, and I’m trying to push away from that to create things that I love.

The bottom line is the limits we think we have are actually created by us. Limits don’t actually exist; we cause limits to exist. And above all, gratitude is key.

I would love for you all to check out my blog where I write about home decorating/renovation, gardening, my upcoming wedding, our Goldendoodle, photography, trips we take, living in New England and anything else that comes up! Here’s a glimpse of what you will find:

You can also visit my Etsy shop here to check out more of my signs. I will be making some new ones soon including customizable save-the-date signs, baby/nursery signs and some quotes about fear!

So pop on over, follow my blog, and leave a link for me to check out yours, too! I’m always looking for new blogs to stalk! ;-)
